How
can I be sure that my child is safe while participating at Storybook
Farm? |
| |
|
Storybook
Farm is a member of the North American Riding for the Handicapped
Association (NARHA), an organization that supports
therapeutic riding in the U.S. and Canada. NARHA assists member
centers like
Storybook Farm with center accreditation, instructor certification
programs and safety guidelines.
Volunteers
at Storybook Farm receive training from a certified instructor
to ensure the safety
of participants and other volunteers. Instructors have
CPR and first aid training. In
addition, a specially designed ramp assists the children while
mounting
the horse.
The saddles are equiped with "safety stirrups” and the riders are required to wear an
ASTM and SEI approved riding helmet, both of which are provided. |

Our
team of equine volunteers includes both horses and ponies to
accommodate all of our riders and provide each child with the
most comfortable fit for their therapy session. Our horses and

What
style of riding is taught at Storybook Farm? |
| |
|
Most
of our children learn to ride in a huntseat English saddle. This
style of riding promotes the development of strength and balance
for our riders and accommodates all skill levels. We also use Western
saddles for children who need the additional support that
this tack provides. |

|
How
does my child mount the horse? |
| |
|
Our
children use a specially designed ramp and mounting block to
position them at the proper level with the saddle. Volunteers
assist the children as needed during the mounting process. |
