November/December News

The Chattahoochee Valley Down syndrome Support Group Came to Visit!

A group of children and parents from the Chattahoochee Valley Down syndrome Support Group came to visit on a chilly Saturday morning at the beginning of November for some games, crafts and of course horseback riding! The kids had a great time riding on Corduroy, Gulliver’s Travelers, Gus Gus and Sherlock Holmes. They also painted horseshoes and had stick horse races out in front of the barn. Even though we spent the morning bundled up to brave the cold and wind, a great time was had by everyone involved.

End of Fall Sessions

The Fall Sessions came to an end the week of November 7th after nine weeks of exciting lessons. Over the semester, the riders traveled over London Bridge, scared Miss Muffet and helped the dish run away with the spoon among many other fun activities. Sessions ended with a trail ride through Secret Garden where everyone was able to leave Paddington Station Arena on horseback and go on an adventure through the pasture. It was such a great semester, and we can’t wait for all the fun times ahead during the Spring Session.

Fall Festival at Storybook

The Storybook Farm Fall Festival was held at the Farm on November 10th with a wonderful turnout for carnival games, food, bouncy houses, a farrier display and a hay ride. The horses were in the barn to visit with everyone on one side, and on the other side, the pony stalls were used for carnival games where the kids could win tickets to be redeemed for cool prizes in the prize room. Outside hotdogs were grilled, and there was an assortment of carnival food along with hot chocolate and apple cider to be had. Aubie showed up and spent a long time taking pictures and participating in cheers with everyone. The hay ride, bouncy houses and farrier display were going on outside the barn with lots of participants at each activity. After an afternoon with so much action, all the horses and ponies were tired, but they had a great time entertaining and cannot wait to do it again next year.

Vittles For Victory- The Race Is Over

The Vittles for Victory race came to an exciting finish as Tinker Bell trotted over the finish line just ahead of Gulliver’s Travels and Paddington Bear. All the horses were so generously supported, and they greatly enjoyed all of their yummy treats that they got from the “feed store.” Over the semester, $3,156.50 was raised for the race, and all of the donations made for an exciting race. There were many lead changes over the semester, but in the end, Tinker Bell pulled off the victory. Thank you again to everyone that participated and be on the lookout for what exciting game we will have for next semester.

A Storybook Christmas

The Storybook Farm Christmas Party was held on December 3rd at the Auburn University Hotel and Conference Center. The children and families were greeted with tables of yummy food and a room full of Christmas crafts. After everyone had eaten and made a few crafts to take home, the first special guest of the day arrived which was Bob Parsons from Walkabout Puppets. He entertained the group with a wonderful puppet show about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. As soon as the puppet show was over, Santa showed up. He was a huge hit with the kids and had them sit in his lap to share what they wanted for Christmas. They had pictures taken and left with a special surprise from Santa. As always, the Christmas Party was such a fun time and a great way to celebrate the Christmas season with all the Storybook riders and their families.

First Baptist Church-Opelika Christmas Outreach

‘Tis the season of giving and the College Ministry from First Baptist Church in Opelika did just that on a Saturday afternoon in early December. The group brought 12 children to the Farm as part of a Christmas Outreach Program where they were able to play games, groom, decorate horseshoes and ride horses in Paddington Station Arena. It was a wonderful afternoon and a great way to celebrate Christmas with some new friends!
